5DM031: Assignment proposal plan (1)

As I have explained in a previous post, the brief was drastically changed to an updated format due to confusion of the previous circus themed brief and problem with our tutor. So our group decided, with a short time limit to get a show-reel underway, to work together in pairs. This advantage would help get things done on time before the deadline dates.

For our compositing outcome, we will be looking into using the main technique of stop motion with another element of either live action or 2D, but this is still in discussion and will be shown in a future post. The aim for the outcome is to have it the time length of 30 seconds. Since we created ideas before on the circus themed brief and did some research sketches on the creatures we were doing, we decided to keep them and base the characters of our short production on the designs. But we will make sure to work as a pipeline to get the best out creating the puppets.
For mine, its the cyclops as shown in previous posts through drawings and for Andrew its the alien monkey which he has already modeled.

In terms of what sort of film it would be, the main idea would be a silent film as it is popular with short films and a strong use of audio music. Or portraying these ideas through colour displays with the use of modern special effects and visual effects techniques.

Concept story ideas:

Below shows the basic story ideas we have thought up for the outcome:

• Cyclops causes havoc but the monkey gets annoyed of the terror he is giving, so he decides to stand up to him and throws food (bananas) at him. But he misunderstands the cyclops, as he does this in a way to say hello and doesn't understand how other animals say hello each other.
• A lonely cyclops who is misunderstood to the other creatures in the forest as they get scared of him and run away. But this makes him sad as he only wants to make friends. But one creature doesn't gets scared of him and is curious who he is and what he's like.
• The cyclops takes the role as the new noisy neighbor who frequently annoys and irritates the miserable, grumpy and non-social able monkey living next door
