5DM034: presentation plan and intentions

As part of the 3d production outcome, the plan involves the research of a character designer/animator I admire with links back to 3d; the scene and character inspiration I will take for the main 3d production including lip sync and what 3d rig I will be using for creation of the scene.

Upon the showreel, the 3d animations I would like to cover is show improved versions of the previous 3d animations but with the different rig to show what I can get from a different performer. This includes the shock phase scene and the postbox scene. This would help with showing further progression in learning how to use 3d software and shows I can improve past work taken from the previous attempts. The other type of scenes I liked to cover is one inspired by a chosen character's blend of personality and characteristics from live action rather than animation sources; and the other would be lip sync of that same chosen live action character.

 Character Animator
The best character developer I admire is Glen Keane, famous for his work on designing and producing such characters as Aladdin, Ariel, Rapunzel and the Beast. What I like from his 3d work is how he creates smooth geometric shapes from his designing process because of how it blends into the fluid movement and how he can take inspiration in his design flow from other works he's done in the past like how Rapunzel (''Tangled, 2010'') has some design adaptation and similarities to Ariel (''The little Mermaid, 1989.'') I also like how he can collaborate the same type of unique personality from facial expressions and movements and be able to adapt it successfully in both 2d and 3d screening. This is notable from the image below as the 2d drawing stage of Flynn from tangled could have worked on traditional animation aswell as 3d animation.

Maya rig
The rig I decided to use is Norman as I feel that it could generate more fluid and dynamic movement. I also feel that I could get some new insight into 3d by using another rig and it can be easily practiced with the use of the information from the pdf file downloaded from the 11secondclub.com and instructions videos from vimeo user https://vimeo.com/chuckgrieb

Character inspiration live action and scene to animate
For the character, I've decided to take on the character Captain Jack Sparrow  from ''The Pirates of the Caribbean'' franchise played by Johnny Depp.

The reason for the choice came from his wild personality produced from his facial expressions mixed with slight drunkness in most scenes he does and the way he moves. From a personal opinion, I like how this character is witty, slightly idiotic but does this in a comedic way and brings out a funny side to pirates through his performance and the type of smart and funny quotes he remarks within the scenarios he gets placed in within each scene.

The areas to cover in the main scene is bringing out his unique personality through emotion in the facial expressions; the action the character would express to create a scenario like my shock reaction scene; movement from the walk cycle which can help make the audience guess what kind of a person he is like and lip syncing taken from one of jack sparrow's most famous quotes.

This vid displays the type of scene I would like to create out of this unique type of personality and characteristics and with the help of the Norman rig, its possible to replicate this approach through the form of animation.
